Get Involved and Make a Difference

Join Us in Faith, Service, and Community Impact

At New Providence United Methodist Church, getting involved means more than just showing up on Sundays — it’s about becoming part of something bigger. We offer a variety of ways for individuals and families to serve, grow, and connect both within our church and throughout the broader New Providence community.

Whether you're passionate about helping others, caring for the earth, supporting youth, or fostering spiritual connection, there’s a place for you at NPUMC. Our ministries and outreach programs welcome all people with open arms and open hearts — no matter your background, experience, or availability.

Below are some of the meaningful ways you can get involved. Each opportunity reflects our mission to be a church that loves, serves, and makes a positive impact in the world around us.

LINC Program

The LINC Program (Linking Initiative for Neighborhood Change) is a community partnership addressing food insecurity and resource gaps across New Jersey. Through efforts like monthly resource pantries, school meal support, and fresh produce from NPUMC’s Giving Garden, LINC helps families access essential items with dignity. Volunteers are always needed to sort, deliver, and connect—making a meaningful difference right here in our community.

Keys 2 Success

Support young students in our community through Keys 2 Success, an after-school mentoring program focused on academic encouragement, personal growth, and life skills development. This initiative empowers children to reach their full potential by providing homework help, reading support, and enrichment activities in a safe, nurturing environment. Volunteers play a vital role as tutors, mentors, and positive role models. Whether you're an educator, a student, or someone with a heart for service, your involvement with Keys 2 Success can help unlock brighter futures—one child at a time.

Gardening

Tend to our church gardens--The Giving Garden, Memorial Garden, and Serenity Garden—each offering a unique way to serve and connect. The Giving Garden provides fresh produce to local food pantries, supporting neighbors in need. The Memorial Garden honors loved ones with a peaceful place of remembrance, while the Serenity Garden offers a quiet space for prayer and reflection. Whether planting, harvesting, or simply enjoying the outdoors, your time in the garden helps nourish both body and soul. No experience needed—just a willing heart.

Prayer Shawls

Join our compassionate ministry by knitting or crocheting prayer shawls for those in need of comfort, healing, or encouragement. Each shawl is lovingly made and prayerfully blessed before being shared with individuals facing illness, grief, or difficult life moments. These shawls serve as a physical reminder of God’s love and the care of our church community. No experience is required—just a willingness to serve with your hands and heart. Yarn, patterns, and warm fellowship are all provided.

Book Ministry

Support our Book Ministry by sharing the joy of reading and spiritual encouragement with those in need. Volunteers collect, sort, and deliver books to shelters, hospitals, senior centers, and other community partners. From children’s stories to devotionals, each book offers comfort, inspiration, and hope. Whether you donate, organize, or help distribute, your efforts help spread God’s love—one book at a time.

Backpack Ministry

Support our Backpack Ministry by helping assemble backpacks filled with essential school supplies for children in underserved communities. Each backpack equips a student to start the school year with confidence and dignity. Whether you donate, pack, or help distribute, your efforts show families they’re supported and help set children up for success—one backpack at a time.

United Women in Faith

We are a community of women committed to advocating for the well-being of women, children, and youth around the world. Through faith-driven service, education, and outreach, we work together to create a more just and compassionate society. All women in the local community are warmly invited to participate—whether you're called to serve, to learn, or to lead. Join us in fellowship and purpose as we make a meaningful impact together.

Rummage Sale

Get involved in one of NPUMC’s most community-driven events—our annual Rummage Sale. Volunteers help sort donations, set up, assist shoppers, and clean up, all while supporting local mission efforts through the sale of gently used items. It’s a fun, hands-on way to meet new people, repurpose goods, and give back. Whether you can spare an hour or a day, your time makes a meaningful difference.

Seasonal Food Drives

Make a meaningful impact by supporting our Seasonal Food Drives, held throughout the year to help stock local food pantries and support families during holidays and times of need. Whether you donate, collect, or help organize, your efforts provide nourishment and hope to neighbors facing food insecurity. It’s a simple way to share God’s love and care in moments that matter most.
